Get Perpendicular

The lengths marketing teams go through to get your attention amazes me sometimes. This one is from the Hitachi disk manufacturer:

You could have know this. A '1' standing up takes far less space than a '1' lying down; just tilt your monitor 90 degrees and see for yourself... I have patented a HDD that doesn't store the '0's. They don't carry any information and thus are simply a waste of space. On an avarage this will give you twice the amount of diskspace. Imagine a RAID system using my disks: you don't need a parity bit anymore because you know the size of the file so you know the number of '1's... that's an extra disk for you to use. I guess Hitachi doesn't give any attention to this because they want to sell disks and I just found a way of doubleing your diskspace without buying new disks...
