While I was searching for a solution to a nasty problem with my Windows Vista workstation (see https://blogs.infosupport.com/blogs/robp/archive/2007/07/04/VISTA-bug_3A00_-Autentication-problems-on-domain-resources-after-PPTP-_2800_VPN_2900_-connection.aspx), I came across a command-line utility I didn't know existed: cmdkey.
Cmdkey creates, lists and deletes stored user names and passwords or credentials.
You could for example, preconfigure credentials to all your favorite networkresources by putting a few cmdkey command in a script. This could be quite efficient if your workstation is not part of a domain, but you still need to access several different resources in it.

P.S. XP doesn’t ship with this tool, but you can actually run the Server 2003 cmdkey.exe on XP.
