  1. the vmdk to vhd works OK but I find success is only about 60%. What I have been using to convert physical and vmdk machines to vhd format is the shareware program “Winimage” – success is 99%. It does the vmdk machine while they are up so you can be using them while the images are produced.

    As with all these conversions a windows repair and service pack reinstall is part of the boot up. Also save yourself a pile of problems by uninstalling VMtools, logmein and whatever else you don’t need prior to the conversion. It is much easier to reinstall than regedit them away.
    I find the MS VM is less feature rich than the VMserver but much easier to administrate, transport and configure.
