So I got the bits. I downloaded the whole 4GB of images and found that Rob Caron already has an updated version of the installation manual that ships on the CD. So I burned the DVD’s and already statrted up one of my base windows 2003 images of VPC to start the installation. I decided I want a one machine server installation, that is also very handy for demonstration purposes. So I opened the manual and looked at the prerequisites. And there it was the remark I did not anticipate:
Note: For this release, only Microsoft SQL Server 2005 April CTP is supported.
Ok, so then I went to the subscribers downloads again and to searched for the April CTP of SQL server 2005. You will not find it! It just isn’t there. I found I am not the only one that got this disapointment. (Read Sam gentile blog on this) So the good news is there is a Beta 2 of Visual Studio Team System. The bad news you can’t install it because the SQL server bits are not available. Go figure.
