this sounds very dull and obvious, but when you know that I am running windows Server 2008 on that machine with Hyper-V enabled, you’ll maybe understand the problem already. I use this machine to do demo’s and test Hyper-V, I like to share my findings with others, SO I loved to have MSN for chatting and Live writer for blogging on this machine. So I downloaded the WLinstaller.exe file an ran it. It told me it did not work with a server OS,
so much for live messenger or Live writer. I downloaded an MSI for messenger 7.5, installed it, that worked, I ran it, tried to log me on, it failed “because I was using an older version of Messenger, It asked me wether I would like to upgrade, I clicked Yes, and to my surprise, it downloaden another installation file, and this clear and simple just installed…
So I was happy, i tried the same trick with Live writer, but to no avail. live writers update link, linked to WLInstaller.exe.
If somebody has a working Installer package for the final Live writer version that is more up to date that beta something, Pleas mail me, post a link to this blog, call me or ping me some other way.

Thank you for the great tip! I had the same problem on win2003 and like you I do a great deal of testing on my laptop and I’ll love to have the new messenger running on it 🙂

I do hope that the windows live guys will change their policy on 64 bits OS-es and server OS-es…
At this point I am forced to use Miranda as a Live messenger client, and although it is a nice program, i mis some features from Live messenger…
