Something I used to demo in the designing Active Directory courses for Windows 2000 was how to “document” and display your Active Directory setup with Visio 2000 professional. Just import the directory and move the items so you have a nice enough display of your AD Design.
I was really flabbergastered when I started using the next version of Visio: This option was just not there… you still could create AD diagrams, but why make it easy seemed to be the choice…
Now there is something called the “Microsoft Active Directory Topology Diagrammer“. It seems they did a nice enough job: you can now create a site topology diagram, an OU diagram, a server topology Diagram. Finally they repaired a big hole in Visio as far as I see it….
