We all know the history of silverlight (at least I’m assuming the readers will know a little about it). The first version was nothing more than a fancy canvas with javascript. Up until a few days ago moonlight (The linux variant of silverlight) was like that too.
But not anymore, the mono community has been working hard to get the whole engine working. They even managed to get some silverlight 3.0 options working already. So by the time they are done with version 2.0, they might well be on their way to releasing a 3.0 version shortly after that together with the new silverlight 3.0 engine from Microsoft. At least I hope that’s what they are going to do.
The roadmap is showing a likely release date somewhere in september 2009. Of course it’s alpha at the moment, but I really hope they are going to get it done in time. It would really help with the adoption of silverlight as yet another standard technology that developers can use to build interactive web (2.0) solutions.
