Websphere-World reports a few new interesting items from IBM. First is an article about the improved security features in Websphere 6.1. Lots of good news in this department. Finally some security is enabled by default, integrated Windows authentication just works now without the additional tricks required in the past. Last but certainly not least, the evil IKeyMan certificate tool is no longer needed for most options! Definately good news because IKeyman is really terrible.
On another note some more news on Rational Application Developer 7 popped up (yes there is no RAD 6.1, it will be 7 instead). Like expected RAD 7 will be based on Java 5 and Eclipse 3.2 and will provide the support for the new Websphere products. The release date of Q4 this year is a bit late. WAS 6.1 is out now and Portal 6 will be soon as well, while WSAD 5.1 support will end in September. Hopefully, RAD 7 will be worth the wait…

RAD 7 is too slow. Working with RAD 7 is such a wasting of time and patience. Sometimes Websphere server will not start , anothertime it will not published. Its not advosable to develope big project where VSS and hibernate generally is used. For simple application, RAD 7 may be faster but not advisable for complexed application.

The frustating kind of error with RAD 7 is : Thread “server.startup : 2” (00000018) has been active for 712440 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 1 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.

Thread “server.startup : 1” (00000017) has been active for 712440 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 1 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.

Update to at least RAD 7.0.0.7. Double click on the server and set “Never publish automatically”, unset “Minimize resources copied to server”. This way, you can at lest modify jsps,js,css without restarting/republishsing the server. For modifications in java or config you still need to restart the server. This works only if you start the server in debug mode.
