On one of the SharePoint servers of a customer PerformancePoint and Reporting Services 2005 (SharePoint integrated mode) is installed. For some small projects which do not have real ‘analyzing’ requirements we bypass PerformancePoint and we just choose to publish the reports in a report library on a site to enable users to run the reports directly. Last week we found an interesting issue due our report parameters were not reacting the way we expected.
The report has different parameters and some are based on the cascading principle to limit the number of items. In our case we have a category parameter and based on this value the items in the next subcategory parameter is populated. However after we deployed the report to a report library to the SharePoint site the interesting part begins.
The user opens the report and selects all the correct values to run the report, after he selected the the category the list of subcategories was not filtered. After clicking the Apply button the report was showing the results and we took another look at the parameters but now it’s the functionality is working correctly.
After some investigation we found a post on the Microsoft Connect site that verifies that this is a bug in 2005 (https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=281612)
Under the remarks there is a post that this is solved in the SSRS 2008 SharePoint add-in and we also tested this and indeed it’s working again.
