As usual right according to plan, Eclipse released the "fall maintenance" packages for Eclipse Europa. This includes Eclipse 3.3.1, Web Tools 2.0.1 and Mylyn 2.1. This is primarily an bug fix release which is especially useful if you are using Web Tools, but less bugs is always better. 🙂
I am preparing for my presentation on Mylyn at the NLJUG J-Fall event, which is at October 11, and I will be using Mylyn 2.1 for the demo. The new version did get some nice new features. I like the new import/export facilities, we were missing that when rolling out Mylyn on larger teams. Some of the stuff that got newcomers to Mylyn confused has been made more user friendly.
It is now once again possible to permanently remove the default "Eclipse.org" entry, so you no longer get an annoying pop-up asking if you are just want local tasks but did install Bugzilla support. Note that in Mylyn 2.0, you can work around this. Go to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, then select the "Mylyn Connector: Bugzilla" feature and press the disable link.
The total number of Europa downloads is close to 3 million now, which is a lot considering it is only out there for a couple months and was released just before the holidays. The number of RCP package downloads is pretty high too, over 230000. Doing a lot of RCP development myself lately, I do understand the enthusiasm, as Eclipse 3.3 made the RCP stuff a lot easier and more powerful. Lets hope the fall maintenance will get the same level of attention.
